4Abandoned, but still a great product  Jul 23, 2010
This is hardly the first good bit of software that has been abandoned by its developer. That doesn't mean that it isn't worth the time and $$... especially at the reduced price. I have played with many DAWs and find this one to be the easiest to jump into and create. Sure there are better programs out there, but they typically have steep learning curves. At the very least, Tracktion 3 is a good learning tool for aspiring home producers. Once you get the hang of music production, you can move to the $300-$500 programs others try to compare this to... or go with the graphically minimalist approach to production in a product like Reaper.

2 Cons:

The developer is no longer updating this product. The only support for it will be found on 3rd party online forums like KVR, but have been sufficient for my needs/problems. But considering there are thousands of users out there happily using other software from many years back that no longer get updates/fixes.... this should not be a huge problem.

This product has been unstable on SOME computers. Like most software, it prefers some systems over others... with the only sensible trends of DO NOT USE ON A MAC and this was not made for the newest multi-core processors. If you have a 2+ yr old computer or are running XP or Vista Home, you should have no problems.

And the best part is that you can download a demo of T3 to see for yourself how easy it is (granted, the SWA tutorial on YouTube really helps). But buy this soon, considering supplies of it are running out everywhere.

1Don't waste your time or money  Jun 01, 2010
After using Tracktion 2.0 and absolutely falling in love with it, I was really excited to upgrade to 3.0. I purchased the Ultimate upgrade bundle ($200 at the time) and it worked Ok on my XP computer (still crashed occasionally) but repeatedly crashed on the Mac. Thinking it was my older Mac, I purchased a new laptop and eventually upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now it will never stay open. Google 'poof crash' you'll see I am not the only one with this problem. A more apt term for this is poof cash because that is what happened to my money. Mackie stopped supporting it less than 10 months after releasing it - and that was over 2 years ago! For them to continue selling this is unconscionable.

I say this as a person that owns Mackie monitors and mixers; I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER MACKIE PRODUCT REGARDLESS OF HOW GREAT IT IS. If they released a new system that has a dubious work around that supposedly will allow you to run a competitor's DAW; I certainly wouldn't buy that. I hope they enjoyed that $200.00, because that is the last they will ever get out of me. I hope that I have convinced you to avoid them as well.

1Dead product, don't bother  May 03, 2010
I don't know why Mackie continues selling this. They've abandoned support and development on the product, and it remains full of bugs. The nicer plugins stopped working for me (crash on insert) after upgrading to OSX 10.5.8. Nothing to see here, dead product, and shame on Mackie for continuing to sell the old dead boxes.
