5Replacement Tube for Avantone CV-12 mic  Jul 19, 2010
I recently bought a Avantone CV-12 microphone and it came with a russian made 6072A tube. They were unbranded so i wasnt sure if this EH tube was going to be a good replacement. Turns out it was better than the original. Btw.....the reason my first tube went out was not a manufacturing defect, i forgot to give the tube time to cool down inside the microphone before I put the mic away(tubes get hot, duh!). I notice in recordings that i get more volume with the EH tubes than i did with the original unbranded tube. I recommend these tubes for every mic and preamp. They give you the smoothest modern sound you can get from tubes.

5EH12AY7 Tube Review  Apr 01, 2008
By far the best 12AY7 tube sold today. I have tried 3 RCA 12AY7's new, Two GE 12AY7 tubes, and countless other used tubes. This tube is the best period. It is crystal clear, quite, and very very musical. How can you tell. Easy. Put any other 12AY7 into a tweed amp and add a boost or overdrive pedal. Then just switch tubes. The clear musical tones will shine and when you put in anything else and do the same thing the overdrive will change to harsh or crackly. This tube brings out natural tone and adds to the overall tone of tweed amps. Without pedals the musical qualities become evident, the NOS all sounded muddy. Forget all the hype because that is all it is. I have ordered my GE 12AY7 tubes from KCA tubes, a very reputable dealer and expected excellent tubes. I ordered the two NOS RCA's from tube depot. All came in new boxes and the GE had matched triodes. Both the RCA and GE's failed....period. Reputable sellers and those old 12AY7 had tone that just didn't live up. Make no mistake its not the seller, its the tubes. I have tested this with people who don't even play guitar in a quite room and they all agree. The EH tube sounds that much better. And yes you will save money. So buy them and feel free to respond. Two of my amps used in this test were both top quality New Clark amps one with 6v6 and the other with 6L6. Exact same results. I have been playing guitar for 35 years and am better at hearing tone than playing. This tube makes a difference. I order them from tube depot and have one coming with high gain for more clean character at higher volumes and matching triods and low noise. I do not work for tube depot and I am a regular player with a real job. With a 12AY7 you do want more clean because these amps break up easily for blues and light rock and the 12AY7 should maintain the tone and not distort or muddy the naturally overdriven tone. EH wins for this use handsdown. I do not know how it will work in non tweed amps but that is the normal use for these tubes. I do not recommend any other tubes or tube types here, I am strictly judging a 12AY7 for tweed.
