5Great accessory for dance party!!!  Apr 28, 2010
Was a little learry at first about purchasing this product, but am very glad so far that I decided to buy. It has provided us a few fun nights with many more to come.
I installed the motor attached to the ceiling with a little hook. Seems to work just fine for me and have had no problems yet. Ran the ball and light for over 4 hours this past weekend and no problems to speak of. The different colors for the light are great, except the light does get a little hot as expected after being on for a few hours.
Great product, good price. Definitely recommend!!!

4Great Ball, Lousy Pinspots  Mar 30, 2010
I just got this a couple of days ago. The ball is really nice. Good construction, 1/2" metal tile, and it already survived a four foot drop onto carpet. The pinspots are a different story. For an incandescent spot, they seem rather week. There is also an issue of the Gels. It only comes with four for two pinspots. This means that like an oversight since you cannot pair up two blues or two reds, etc. Finally, the motor is rather nice, if not a bit fast. It spins at 6 RPM. Overall, a good product for a good price. Four Stars.

5Little Disco Ball with Big Disco Effect  Mar 29, 2010
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R39W1M11HL8S6R The minute-or-so-long video that I uploaded shows the American DJ MB8 Combo 8-Inch Mirror Ball Kit in action. The video was shot in darkness so that all you'll see is the disco ball slowly rotating and the effect that this product provided for a kid's party. This product helped to create the perfect party "vibe" (as you'll hear on the video clip). We mounted the ball on the ceiling, installed the light on the wall, and inserted the blue filter. The ball and light worked beautifully throughout the whole party, which lasted three hours. Everyone loved the party, and I have to say that the little disco ball and light worked as hard as the D.J.!

Oh, and the kit arrived swiftly. We ordered it only three days before the party. This product is one of the few last-minute purchasing decisions that I'll never regret.

5Awesome Disco Ball At A Great Price  Mar 18, 2010
This disco ball was perfect. It is a great size, and it doesn't use a cord. The light is metal, and very large. The lights comes with four color changing discs, and everything is made of good quality. I have not had any problems with the motor, or light, and both have been on for hours at a time. Overall, great disco ball at a great price.

2Big Disappointment  Feb 03, 2010
I bought two of these and had to return both of them. First, the pedestal on which you mount the mirror ball differed from the item pictured on this site and appeared to be of lower quality. The one I received was lightweight plastic and the one pictured here appears to be metal and smaller. The first time, just like another reviewer mentioned, the motor that slowly spins the mirror ball quit after running only a few minutes. I got the impression that since it is battery-powered it was simply not strong enough to keep turning under the weight of the mirror ball, which is quite heavy. So the motor seemed to be overtaxed and sluggish. It would cut out and then start up again after a rest, then cut out again. I tried 3 different batteries (it takes a large "D" battery) and it still would not work properly. I will say that the mirror ball and the pin spot appear to be of excellent quality, however.

With the second one the motor would not stop when the switch was turned to the "off" position. I didn't even bother to mount the ball to see if it would keep turning without cutting out but my guess is it probably would have done the same thing as the first one.

The motor/pedestal does not come with instructions to show you how to correctly mount the ball or offer any care and cleaning recommendations. When I called the 800 support number for help, the young man who answered the phone was utterly clueless. I honestly felt I had reached the wrong number, the guy seemed so disoriented and had nothing to offer in the way of help, assurances, information, etc. Duhhhhhhh.......

Finally, I have to commend Amazon for their exceptional service in processing the return of both items. They actually make it a pleasure. I love Amazon.com!

Although the experience was a disappointing one, I guess it was a learning experience. The $30 price tag did indeed seem low considering that you get a very fine looking mirror ball and what seems to be a rather heavy-duty plug-in pin spot with 4 color lenses (the pin spot does come with instructions, by the way.) If not for the lack of instructions for the pedestal and the lousy motor (manufactured in People's Republic of China) this would have been a winner and I would have been happy paying twice the price.
